BURMESE BRONZE MINIATURE

made by provincial metalsmiths of Northern Burma (Shan), this miniature Buddha is sitting under a stylized Bodhi tree. The faithful used these objects as votive offerings to be displayed in the reliquaries of newly built stupas. This was done in accordance with the Buddhist doctrine of karma.
