KOREAN RICE CAKE BOARD (ANBAN)

This traditional kitchen utensil was used as a wooden pounding board to make rice cakes (tteok) in the traditional Korean way. The board is used to mix the steamed rice grain particles with other subsidiary ingredients by pounding it with a mallot. Years of use have given the board a nice patina.
