betel chewing box from Cambodia used to hold betel chewing paraphernalia. Betel chewing has been popular for centuries all over Southeast Asia. The fruit of the areca palm is cut in half and wrapped in a leaf of the betel piper vine and then mixed with ground lime and some oil. The round box is made of coiled bamboo and has a wooden tray with compartments for the ingredients.
