MARTABAN JAR

named after Martaban in Thailand which is famous for its large storage jars that were traded throughout Southeast Asia and into China. This great example of Martaban has a dark yellow ochre glaze and five lugs in the shape of lion heads. Textile or leather was strapped around the large lip to protect the content of the jar.
