from the Han Dynasty through the Ming Dynasty a rich record of miniature clay sculptures exists. The figures were placed in tombs for the afterlife and were often related to the deceased. It was not only the nobilitiy but also a huge middle class that wanted their tombs furnished with elaborate representations of their wealth.
